New KOHLER Diesel Engine Expands Tier 4 Lineup

October 2010

KOHLER, Wis. – October 2010 – Kohler Engines today introduced its newest Tier 4 Final-compliant diesel engine: the single-cylinder, 9.8 horsepower/7.3 kilowatt KOHLER KD 420. Fitted with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) unit and benefiting from tuning enhancements to fuel timing, fuel injector and injector pump systems; KOHLER KD 420 meets EPA Tier 4 Final standards and expands Kohler Engines’ overall lineup of Tier 4 Final-compliant diesel engines.

As of January 1, 2010, Environmental Protection Agency standards required all “non-road diesel engines” rated below 25.5 horsepower (hp)/19 kilowatt (kW) to be compliant with Tier 4 Final emission standards. With the introduction of the 9.8 hp KD 420, Kohler Engines now has five air-cooled diesel engine models below the 25.5 hp/19 kW power category — all EPA Tier 4 Final-compliant.

“Kohler Engines has been committed to minimizing the effect of EPA Tier 4 on our outdoor power equipment manufacturing customers, and by extension consumers,” said Cam Litt, manager – marketing, Kohler Engines. “Employing a combination of improvements to fuel injectors and exhaust gas recirculation, all KOHLER diesel engines currently subject to Tier 4 Final emission standards have achieved them, and they still produce the same level of power and performance. Additionally, Kohler Engines’ OEM customers haven’t needed to make major adjustments to accommodate Tier 4 Final-compliant KOHLER diesel engines. Reduced emissions, without sacrificing power or redesigning outdoor power equipment — these attributes have made Kohler Engines a leading Tier 4 solution.”
