Kohler® Engines Introduces Propane EFI Engine

October 2011

KOHLER, Wis. – October 27, 2011 – Kohler® Engines introduced today a new engine that combines the company’s closed-loop EFI (electronic fuel injection) technology with the benefits of propane. The Kohler Command PRO® EFI Propane Engine is a highly efficient, environmentally-friendly option, akin to the gasoline version, that provides increased productivity and lower overall operating cost to landscape contractors and other green industry professionals. The new propane engine will be available in 2012 as an option on Kohler’s entire Command PRO® EFI commercial line, which includes more than a dozen engines ranging from 19 to 29 hp.

“We’re the first and only manufacturer to offer a propane-fueled EFI engine,” said Mark Johansen, senior product manager for Kohler Engines. “This is a pretty significant combination. After all, green industry pros now have access to the clean-burning, eco-friendly benefits of propane in tandem with the unmatched efficiency and proven performance of our closed-loop EFI technology. This engine actually emits the lowest hydrocarbon output of any propane engine currently available, so it’s an ideal option for those looking to add to their eco-friendly fleet as well as those who have been waiting to jump into propane technology.”

Many landscape contractors nationwide have turned to propane to ensure they can stay up-and-running during “Green Days” or “No-Zone Days,” when local municipalities prohibit the use of gasoline-powered equipment.

When paired with Kohler’s exclusive closed-loop EFI technology, utilizing a propane engine makes even greater sense. Why? Only Kohler EFI engines integrate an oxygen sensor that analyzes the air/fuel mixture in the unit’s muffler. If the oxygen level strays from the ideal mixture, the sensor triggers adjustments to the amount of fuel injected into the system. Kohler’s EFI technology then “close the loop” between the air/fuel intake and the exhaust output to provide a constant stream of critical feedback, which helps deliver optimal fuel efficiency and a variety of other benefits, including easier starting, improved power and increased life span.
