Kohler Turns Upgrades Into Standard Features On Its Industrial/Commercial Single-Cylinder Family Of Engines

February 2010

Quick Facts

  • KOHLER Command PRO single-cylinder, horizontal shaft engine lineup improves upon features commonly offered as cost-added upgrades, then makes them standard equipment
  • Standard Equipment: Quad-Clean — the industry’s first all-in-one, four-stage cyclonic,
    heavy-duty air cleaning system
  • Standard Equipment: Warm air intake/winter weather optimization in the turn of an air cleaner

KOHLER, Wis. – February 2010 – Kohler Co has redefined “standard equipment” for commercial engines by significantly improving upon air cleaning system functionality and then making the upgrades available at no extra charge on KOHLER Command PRO® single-cylinder, horizontal-shaft commercial engines. With its breakthrough in engine air cleaning technology, Kohler offers exacting air protection without additional cost.

All-inclusive, Four-Stage Cyclonic Air Intake Cleaning
Quad-Clean™, an industry first and standard equipment from Kohler, delivers four stages of air cleaning engineered into the same space as a conventional dual-stage air cleaning system. Kohler’s all-inclusive, four-stage cyclonic, heavy-duty air filtration system begins with (1) a mesh screen at the air intake port, providing the first step of protection. Upon entering the cleaning chamber, air is circulated in a rapid, cyclonic motion to (2) force large contaminants out of the engine. At this point, the cleaner remaining air passes through (3) a reusable, eco-friendly foam pre-cleaner, which traps midsize particles. Helping to ensure only clean air enters the engine, the fourth stage of cleaning passes the air through (4) a metal mesh-enforced pleated air filter, capturing the finest bits of debris. This fourth phase of cleaning is aided by Kohler’s industry-leading pleated air filter — featuring more pleats and 80 percent more surface area to catch dust and keep the engine running at maximum power.

“With Quad-Clean, our four-stage cyclonic air intake cleaning system, Kohler has created a sum-of-the-parts air purification system. It combines the best cleaning properties of a traditional dual-element system with cyclonic air cleansing, but unlike existing cyclonic air filtration devices, Kohler’s Quad-Clean puts it all together,” said Cam Litt, marketing manager, Kohler engines. “Kohler’s four-stage cyclonic air cleaning system is completely self-contained in a conventional-size air-cleaning housing and it’s standard equipment on the entire KOHLER Command PRO single-cylinder, horizontal-shaft engine lineup.”

Winter Weather Optimization, No Kits or Tools Required
In another instance of Kohler’s commitment to better engine durability, reliability and standard equipment, KOHLER Command PRO® single-cylinder, horizontal-shaft commercial engines can be winter weather optimized in a simple turn of its four-stage cyclonic air filtration device. By unfastening two clips and turning the air cleaner 180 degrees, it doubles as a warm air intake system, recycling heat from the muffler to keep the carburetor from freezing up in cold weather conditions. No kits or tools are required. As with Quad-Clean, the entire KOHLER Command PRO single-cylinder, horizontal shaft engine lineup includes winter weather optimization at no additional cost.

Command PRO® single-cylinder, horizontal shaft commercial engines
With horsepower options of 7, 9.5 and 14, Command PRO out-muscles comparable engines designed for the commercial/industrial market and comes standard with the industry’s largest-capacity fuel tanks — 4.3 liters on the 7-hp and 7.7 liters on the 9.5- and 14-hp models — to help facilitate extended run time. Engineered with the same footprint as competitors’ engines, Command PRO can be utilized with a wide range of commercial/industrial applications, including concrete cutting saws, small concrete mixers, chipper/shredders, ground pounders, portable generators and air compressors, as well as rental outdoor equipment.
