Kohler Leverages Commercial Heritage And Goes Consumer Friendly With Courage XT-7 Utility Engine

KOHLER, Wis. – February 2010 – Kohler Co. has introduced enhancements for its
Courage® XT-Series engines, combining Kohler’s proven expertise in commercial-grade engines with the convenient and straightforward features consumers seek in a utility engine.

  • Accu-Fill™: Easier refueling and fewer spills with an angled, 45 percent larger gas tank opening 
  • Consistent Power: Optimized governor system provides fast response to heavy loads
  • Energy-Saver Electric Start: Turn-key starting, 40 percent lighter, 25 percent more starts per charge
  • Smart-Choke™: Easy, no-prime starting Easy-Pull: Reduced pull force enabling fingertip starting

Kohler’s Courage XT engine series debuted in the consumer utility market with the 2009 launch of the Courage XT-7 vertical-shaft, 4.5 net hp, 173 cc, utility engine. Utilizing the rugged, professional-grade design of the Courage XT-7 walk-behind mower engine, the Courage XT-7 utility engine is equipped to power a wide variety of applications including pressure washers, tillers, log splitters, chipper/shredders, generators and pumps.  

The Courage XT-7 utility engine comes standard with overhead valve (OHV) design, cast iron cylinder bore and flywheel ball bearing — delivering professional-grade engine efficiency and durability to the consumer-utility market. A wide variety of options allow the engine to be customized to fit various applications.

Options include:

  • Straight, stepped or tapered PTO shafts
  • Engine-mounted controls
  • Front or side-discharge muffler
  • Fixed or 6-position recoil
  • Bottom or side oil drain
  • Paper or foam-only air cleaner
  • Foam pre-cleaner
  • Recoil or electric start

The Courage XT-7 utility engine is certified for both current EPA and CARB emissions standards. This engine meets or exceeds Society of Automotive Engineers Small Engine Test Code J1940 horsepower requirements.
